Hurricane-Rated Garage Doors in LaBelle

Wind-rated doors are installed to their approval and then kept in condition, so the hardware and fasteners behind the rating stay sound.

A Rating Is Only as Good as the Hardware Behind It

A wind-rated door is tested to a design pressure and listed under a Florida product approval. The rating depends on the whole assembly: heavier-gauge hardware, added reinforcement and the specified fasteners at the track and jambs.

That makes upkeep matter. A loose track bolt or a missing fastener weakens what the approval depends on. We install to the approval, and later visits check the hardware, labels and balance so the door stays as installed.

What to Watch on a Wind-Rated Door

  • Loose or missing fasteners

Track and jamb bolts should be tight and complete. A missing one is a gap in the assembly the rating depends on.

  • Rusted or bent reinforcement

Struts and bracing that rust through or bend lose strength. Surface rust can be dealt with; deformation calls for replacement.

  • A faded or missing label

The approval label identifies the model and rating. If it is peeling off or unreadable, an inspection has nothing to refer to.

How Wind-Rated Work Goes

  1. 1

    Confirm the approval

The required design pressure for the opening is established, and a model with a matching Florida product approval is selected.

  2. 2

    Install to the listing

Every track section, bracket and fastener goes in as the listing details, with no substitutions, then the door is balanced and the opener set.

  3. 3

    Inspect and keep records

Later visits check fasteners, bracing, labels and balance, and the findings are noted so any change is spotted early.

Questions Owners Ask

How is design pressure defined?
It is the wind load, expressed in pounds per square foot, that a door was tested to resist. The requirement depends on where the home sits and the size of the opening. A permit review checks that the door's rating meets it.
Does a wind-rated door need a permit?
Replacing the door generally does, and the permit review looks at the product approval. Maintenance and repairs of individual parts normally do not. We explain what applies to your project, and which paperwork is involved, before any work starts.
How should a wind-rated door be maintained?
Like any door, plus attention to the extras: keep fasteners tight, leave the reinforcement unaltered and make sure the label stays readable. Do not add or remove parts, because the approval covers the door as tested.
